A multi-sensory performance that transports audiences to the Irish bog landscape through scent. Luke Casserly collaborated with renowned perfumer Joan Woods to create a unique essence of the Midlands bog - the place where he grew up - as the starting point for an olfactory encounter exploring our relationship to place. Created in direct response to the closure of Ireland’s peat harvesting industry, Distillation is dedicated to the future of our broken landscapes - in the hope that by listening to them, we might be able to better understand them.

When an Irish knight was caught kidnapping a local heiress, his punishment was swift: exile to a single-storey cottage in NSW. Over five decades, new owners transformed the cottage into a large and picturesque estate. By the 1830s, the gardens and grounds covered most of the present-day suburb of Vaucluse but the main house of the family's dreams was still unfinished. In 1915 Vaucluse House became Australia's first official house museum, and continues today to delight and intrigue visitors with its stories and still-secluded grounds.

Getting There
The venue is located at 69A Wentworth Road, Vaucluse.

Train: The nearest major station is Edgecliff (take the T4 line, then transfer to the 325 bus directly to the venue gates).

Bus: Services (Route 325) run from the CBD and Edgecliff Station, stopping right outside the property gates on Wentworth Road. Alternatively, Route 324 stops at Vaucluse shops (approx. 10-minute walk).

Car: Free on-site parking is available for visitors within the grounds (entrance via Wentworth Avenue).
