Elizabeth Farm is one of Australia's oldest homesteads, and birthplace of the wool industry. Elizabeth Farm was built in 1793 for John and Elizabeth Macarthur, pioneers of the Australian wool trade, before being renovated and transformed into a fine colonial bungalow.

Elizabeth Farm is located about 23 km west of the Sydney CBD. For the quickest routes and timetables, visit the Transport Infoline or call 131 500.

  • Train: The closest station is Harris Park (T1 North Shore & Western Line), about a 15-minute walk. From Parramatta Station, it’s a 25-minute walk or a short ride on the L4 Parramatta Light Rail.

  • Light Rail: The closest stop is Tramway Avenue (L4 line), a 10-minute walk from Elizabeth Farm.

  • Bus: Route 909 runs regularly from Parramatta Station to Bankstown, stopping at the corner of Alice and Alfred Streets, just 100m from the farm.

  • Ferry: From Circular Quay, take the Parramatta River ferry to Parramatta Wharf, then walk 20 minutes.

By Road

  • Parking: Free on-street parking is available on Alice Street (check signs for time limits).

  • Accessible Parking: Two designated accessible spaces are located near the entrance on Alice Street. Visitors may also use the bus parking area for drop-off and pick-up.

  • Bus Parking: Available near the main entrance on Alice Street.

Cycling

Parramatta’s flat terrain makes cycling a great option. Elizabeth Farm is part of the Parramatta Heritage Ride and is a short ride from Parramatta Station.

Elizabeth Farm is a one-storey building, though some areas have single steps and uneven surfaces.
